Several add-on components have been developed to work with and enhance the Joomla websites used by many Groups and Areas. The basic Joomla CMS is mature, sophisticated and very powerful but without an IT background the number of options and choices available can be initially overwhelming for some.

A vital ingredient of any successful local website is a flexible, up to date and searchable list of walks. The change to the national website in mid 2023 makes this more important than ever, since many find the "new improved" listing less easy to navigate. All walks that are entered into WalksManager are stored in a central database, and a set of tools, written by and for volunteers, makes it straightforward to extract walks data from there. They can then be shown in an easy to read tabular form for ready access by all, not only members but the general public as well.

However, an "out of the box" website requires the creation of simple programs, and while examples are provided, the component RA Tools (com_ra_tools + mod_ra_tools) allows the specification of your requirements via a series of foolproof menus. A following section below gives full details of how to use this, together with several ancillary function to expand the scope of your site.

Once this core component has been installed, several further components are available, all with a very similar user interface, each addressing different functionality to enrich the usefulness of your site. Together they provide an extremely powerful set of functions, which can be deployed incrementally, all controlled by the choice of simple options.
