There are five different methods of setting up a subscription to a mailing list;
| 1 | The processing of the corporate interface file can enrol a member | If a record is present on the interface, a User record will be created (if one is not already present), and a subscription will be created to the "Primary" list, typically "Members Newsletter". After all records have been processed, if any subscriptions are present with enrolment method = "Corporate list" which have not been refreshed, that subscription will be cancelled. |
| 2 | A website administer can create a new User, then will immediately will be shown the table of Lists, and select one or more for the user to be subscribed to. | This functionality is available from the front end, and is simple and convenient |
| 3 | A website administer can manually select an existing user and assign them to a list. | This is the usual method to enrol a member onto a Closed list |
| 4 | A user can self register to the site, and choose to subscribe to a list | This can only be used for Open lists, and Groups can choose whether their "Members newsletter" is Open or Closed |
| 5 | The processing of a Mailchimp extract file can enrol a member | This could be used to subscribe anyone on the list to "Members newsletter", and they would continue to be subscribed even if they are not on any subsequent corporate feed. |
| 6 | Processing a CSV file can enrol a member | This can be a quick and simple way of setting up a new list with a given sub-set of members, for example "Weekends away" |
The date of registration wil be logged, and every twelve months thereafter the subscription would elapse unless explicitly renewed.
This methodology will allow members to opt into the group's "Members newsletter" but stay opted out of "marketing" emails from Central Office. This is a very significant feature, since there is at present a systemic error in the corporate communications strategy that cannot accommodate this common requirement.
In this way, once a member has enrolled for the Members Newsletter the subscription would not be cancelled if they have opted out of corporate emails.
